To be honest, every time i hear this "AI" or artificial intelligence the first thing that pops i my mind are robots and for some reason i keep on remembering this movie staring Will Smith and millions of robots and how scared i was because i don't want that to be real. In the movie, the robots were suppose to help human beings in their daily activities and out of nowhere they turned into evil robots. They harm people and as it turned out one of the robot has a mind of its own. I don't really remember the whole story line but just the thought of that being in existent scares the hell out out of me.
Due to my lack of knowledge when it comes to this subject matter, i decided to educate myself. As it has been defined, artificial intelligence is the branch of computer science concerned with making computers behave like humans. According to the article that i have read, robots are being used in assembly plants but its abilities are still limited. The natural language processing, wherein you can simply talk to a computer more complex than expected. A lot of studies are still needed to enhance their competence.
It has also been mentioned that the greatest achievement when it comes to this field is when a chess program were able to beat Gary Kasparov who is a world chess champion. When i read that part, it brought me back to hat day wherein Ms. Kat asked us during one of our classes if we believe that computers can think referring to that incident which also brings me back to my answer which is computers can think but not in the same manner that we do. According an article by Mitchell Waldrop, thinking is way too complicated for computers and they can only think in principle.
