Last month I was assigned to report about the semiotic tradition for our class in introcom. Under that topic is the Technological Determinism by McLuhan which explains the evolution of communication through time. He believes that "every from of media is an extension of the human being." He divided our history into four stages which are the tribal age, the age of literacy, the print age, and the electronic age. I believe that nowadays we are living in the electronic age as McLuhan described it as a global village connected by electronic communication devices.
The theory also stated that closed human systems no longer exist in order to communicate. I definitely agree because communicating to somebody is no longer difficult provided our technology nowadays. Cellphones has been invented, e-mails, chat, and a lot more. In our society, the need of sight that used to be attached to be able to communicate is no longer necessary. The sense of hearing already dominated.
