Last Friday, October 7, 2008, Ms. Kat made us attend a seminar regarding entrepreneurship and how successful people like Lucio Tan made it big time in the business world. As i was listening i was really shocked to find out that some of them weren't able to finish college and yet it seems like they are so full of wisdom when it comes to putting a business. I know i am a communication arts student but somehow it captured my attention. I became curious as to how it works. You see, we have our own company and my parents are both entrepreneurs but i never took the time to discuss these kind of things with them. Whenever i hear them talk it's like i don't understand their language or they are speaking a different jargon. It seems very complicated for me but the way that the speaker explained it was very clear.I understood every single word that he said. He told us examples like how they all started with small sari-sari stores and after a couple of years it grew into a large business.
We also took a test to see if we are a natural entrepreneur but i failed it. I only got 10 correct answers out of twenty. The questions are so bizarre and so are the answers. There is this one question that says if we are a top student so I answered yes because i never got scolded because of my grades and the correct answer is no. It was so funny. Life really has it's ways to surprise us. As it turned out, most of the successful entrepreneurs weren't top students. I guess they are really born with that kind of talent. Lucky them.
The speaker also gave us three important factors if you will put up a business and I'm so sorry because i forgot what it was. It was simple. From what i understood, you just have to be patient, love what you are doing, and be willing to compromise even sleeping in order to do what needs to be done. You shouldn't be mindful of the risks that you are taking and you have to be adventurous. Do not be afraid to fail. As what they all say, no pain no gain.
Unfortunately we weren't able to finish the seminar because we have classes.
